New Delhi: Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra – who was expelled from the Lok Sabha last month – has vacated her government allotted accommodation after incessant notices from the Directorate of Estates (DoE) following her expulsion, Deccan Herald reported.“House number 9B on Telegraph Lane occupied by Mahua Moitra was vacated by 10 am this morning before the authorities arrived. No eviction took place,” Moitra’s Counsel Shadan Farasat told reporters. The possession of the house has been handed over to the DoE officials, he added.The Trinamool leader was asked to vacate the bungalow by January 7 after she was expelled from parliament in December.Moitra, who is recovering from a major surgery at her home in Delhi, had approached the Delhi high court on January 4 seeking relief from the eviction notice. According to her lawyers, MPs are allowed to keep their homes from the last day of a parliament session before a general election to the day of results.Since Moitra has been named as a candidate, the lawyers argued that this should apply to her as well, NDTV reported.Justice Subramoniun Prasad at that time had noted that the rules permitted the authorities to allow a resident to overstay for up to six months by paying certain charges in exceptional circumstances, its report also said.
