New Delhi: Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has avoided directly addressing US president Donald Trump or the 50 per cent tariff imposed by him on Indian exports, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) – the ideological fountainhead of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – has said that America is promoting terrorism and dictatorship. In a scathing editorial in its mouthpiece Organiser, the RSS has said that the “American unipolar world is in decline and challenged at multiple levels.”“We are witnessing trade wars, unnecessary tariffs, sanctions, and regime change operations. The United States, self-proclaimed messiah of freedom and democracy, is promoting terrorism and dictatorship,” said the editorial in Organiser titled Bharatiya World View: Redefining power.“China is emerging as a major challenger to the existing system, with a debt trap, and lacks credible options for stable institutions. Russia-Ukraine War, Israel-Hamas War and Israel-Iran conflicts are the symptoms of this crumbling international order – the clear sign of this crumbling world – which was never orderly,” the editorial adds. The editorial adds that actions like Surgical Strikes, Operation Sindoor, and continuous assertion to ensure strategic autonomy through prudent foreign policy options are a symbol of the same national consciousness. The American unipolar world is in decline and challenged at multiple levels. The international institutions, from the United Nations to the World Trade Organisation, are proving to be irrelevant and inefficient in managing the relationships between different nations across the continents,” says the editorial. The RSS mouthpiece’s criticism of the US is significant as Modi has so far refrained from directly taking on the US on issues such as tariffs and claims made by Trump about “mediating a ceasefire” between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor.Modi, who has been an RSS pracharak, has remained silent even after repeated calls by opposition for speaking on the issue. In recent months, speculations have been rife about possible disagreements between the RSS leadership and the BJP under Modi. Earlier this year, Modi had visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur for the first time since he became the Prime Minister in 2014.In July, RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat had spoken about stepping aside at the age of 75, sparking a sharp debate on if these words were actually meant for Modi, who, along with Bhagwat, turns 75 this September.
