Kolkata: Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has demanded that Bharatiya Janata Party national vice-president Dilip Ghosh be arrested after he made comments against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that he said were “outrageous.”During an interaction at the ‘India Today East Conclave’, Ghosh spoke on TMC and Banerjee’s election campaign in the last assembly polls in Bengal which had hinged on the catchphrase, “Bengal wants its daughter.” Ghosh then said that Banerjee’s subsequent visit to Goa ahead of assembly polls in that state, and her claim that she felt affinity with the coastal state, did not add up.“She says she is Bengal’s daughter. That’s fine, Bengal’s daughter. Then she goes to Goa and says she is Goa’s daughter. Parents don’t have an address? You can say anything?” Ghosh said, in Hindi.Banerjee’s nephew and Diamond Harbour TMC MP on Wednesday tweeted, “Outrageous. PM @narendramodi, it is about time to get this loose tongue arrested! Is this how @BJP4India leaders talk about the only sitting woman Chief Minister of the nation?”OUTRAGEOUS!PM @narendramodi, it is ABOUT TIME to get this loose tongue arrested! Never seen someone wear a saree like that. If you want to show your leg, then wear bermuda,” he said. After some outrage, when reporters asked Ghosh about his remarks, he doubled down on them, saying, “Being a woman chief minister we certainly expect from her some decency that goes well with the culture and tradition of Bengal, and with the values of a Bengali woman.”(With PTI inputs)
