New Delhi: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh embarked on a 70-day-long ‘Satya Sanatan Swabhiman Yatra’ from Ujjain to Ayodhya on Tuesday (October 20) reported the New Indian Express. The 960-km long padyatra (foot march) which is expected to culminate at the Ram temple in Ayodhya aims at raising issues related to transparency in temple offerings, management of temples and an impartial probe into cases of donation theft. The yatra is also expected to raise issues related to vote theft, an issue being raised by the Congress party with respect to the alleged discrepancies in revised voter lists being released as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in several states. A special chariot carrying the idols of Ram, Lakshman, Sita and Hanuman will be accompanying the yatra which has received support from the likes of former karsevak Santosh Dubey and Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand, among others. As reported by The Wire earlier in June 2026, Dubey was among those whistleblowers from Ayodhya, who had submitted a complaint at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station demanding that an FIR be filed against former Ram Mandir Trust’s then general secretary Champat Rai and other senior officials including Anil Mishra and Gopal Rao. When the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the chief minister Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Uttar Pradesh submitted a 74,000 page chargesheet recently at Ayodhya’s Anti Corruption court in September 2026, with Champat Rai’s names listed merely as a witness, Dubey told The Wire: “It was all just a game to save certain persons. Everyone was involved in the loot.”In July 2026, 79-year-old Singh, who is a two-time chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, had made an announcement that he would be moving to a court in Ayodhya seeking the return of Rs 1,11,000 that he had earlier donated to the Ram Mandir. News agencies report that Singh’s latest effort is being lauded by whistleblower and Ram Mandir Trust’s former accountant, Mahipal Singh, who as The Wire had reported earlier after leaving his job in 2022 had shared his ordeal with a local based in Ayodhya about alleged corruption prevalent inside the temple .
