New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has agreed to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) through video-conferencing after March 12, news agency PTI reported.Kejriwal, who has consistently labeled the summonses as ‘illegal,’ had chosen not to appear before the ED on multiple occasions, asking the agency to wait as the matter is sub-judice. In addition to the ED summons, Kejriwal is slated to appear before a city court on March 16, regarding a complaint case filed by the ED regarding the avoidance of summonses.The ED has alleged that leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including Kejriwal, received bribes amounting to Rs 100 crores in connection to the 2021-22 excise policy. This policy, initially implemented in November 2021, was scrapped following a recommendation by Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, triggering a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.Also read: ED Summons to Kejriwal a Ploy to Destroy INDIA Bloc Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha Polls: AAPKejriwal is implicated in the conception of the policy, as per the ED’s charge sheets, although formal charges are yet to be filed. The case stems from an FIR that highlighted irregularities in the formulation and execution of the Delhi Excise Policy (2021-22), which led to the ongoing investigations.The ED’s sixth charge sheet, filed on December 2, 2023, also named AAP leader Sanjay Singh and his associate Sarvesh Mishra. It has been alleged that AAP used bribes totalling Rs 45 crore, purportedly derived from the policy, for its electoral campaign in Goa during the 2022 assembly elections.Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and AAP leader Sanjay Singh are already in judicial custody as part of the ongoing case. Sisodia was apprehended by the CBI on February 26 while Singh was arrested on October 5, 2023
