The longest leg of the yatra will be in Uttar Pradesh where 11 days have been allotted to cover 20 districts in the state.Rajya Sabha MP and the party’s general secretary media in-charge Jairam Ramesh told mediapersons that the decision to rename the yatra was taken at a meeting of all state party presidents and legislative party leaders in New Delhi on Thursday, in which discussions on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections were held.“From September 2022 to January 2023, Rahul Gandhi’s 4000-km Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kashmir to Kanyakumari was a transformative padyatra. It changed Indian politics and energised the Congress party and enthused the party cadre across different states. The yatra was a milestone in our party’s history as well as in India’s history,” said Ramesh.“The issues raised by Rahul Gandhi on economy, political justice, and authoritarianism across 12 states during the Bharat Jodo Yatra were discussed at today’s meeting. The message of that yatra was emphasised in today’s meeting by Kharge and all our leaders. On the basis of all suggestions that were received, it was decided today that this yatra should be renamed as Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. In the Preamble of the Indian constitution, social, economic, and political justice is mentioned. Equality, liberty, justice, and fraternity are mentioned in the Preamble. It was unanimously agreed that the success of the Bharat Jodo Yatra on our organisation and Indian politics should not be forgotten and instead taken forward and therefore it was decided to rename this yatra as justice is our goal – economic, social and political justice.”Unlike the previous Bharat Jodo Yatra, Ramesh said that this one will mostly be conducted by bus, but it will also include walks by Gandhi during which he will meet people and civil society organisations.Amid speculation around the INDIA alliance losing steam ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and with seat-sharing arrangements yet to be finalised, Ramesh said that everyone is invited to the yatra, including members of the opposition INDIA alliance.“I want to say that everyone is invited to this yatra. Our INDIA alliance partners, other parties who are with the Congress in different states as well civil society organisations in different parts of the country, we invite them to join our yatra.”He said that Congress leaders will hold discussions with INDIA alliance members for them to join the yatra at any location.A meeting is also scheduled for Thursday evening when Kharge will meet the members of the Congress National Alliance Committee that includes Mukul Wasnik, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, Salman Khurshid, Mohan Prakash, to discuss details of the alliances in different states within the INDIA alliance.“They have met our party leaders in all states and after their meeting with Kharge, future meetings with different parties of the INDIA alliance will be decided,” said Ramesh.
