New Delhi: Rewarding leaders who boosted its prospects or secured wins in state elections and handing posts in states where recent transitions went badly to new names, the Congress party has rejigged its state-level composition. The most significant change, effected Saturday (September 5), is in Punjab. As per a report in the Hindu, former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has been moved out of Punjab, where a spat between former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has failed to cease. Sachin Pilot has been sent in his place. The Congress party had earlier made Channi chairman of its campaign committee in Punjab, which did not go down well with Warring and his supporters even though the latter retained his PCC post.Pilot was a senior poll observer in Kerala, where the Congress-led United Democratic Front scored an impressive victory. Bahgel will now move to head the party’s state unit in Assam, another politcally challenging region for the Congress party. On the other hand, Randeep Singh Surjewala has apparently been rewarded for the party’s recent leadership transition in Karnataka, where former chief minister Siddaramaiah has handed over the top position to D.K. Shivakumar. Surjewala is now the general secretary in charge of Gujarat and will also hold additional charge of Karnataka.Mukul Wasnik, the Gujarat in-charge so far, will remain general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in the state.Lok Sabha MP from Jharkhand, Sukhdeo Bhagat, has been made AICC in-charge of Chhattisgarh, Sirivella Prasad will be in-charge of Maharashtra and P.V. Mohan will be the in-charge of Andhra Pradesh.
