New Delhi: The Congress party has flagged concerns about deletion of certain names from the voter list in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive in Uttarakhand, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI). According to the report, the party has alleged that a large number of objections via Form-7 for the purpose of voter deletion have been filed in constituencies where Congress has significant influence.Congress leader Amrinder Bisht has alleged that in some instances a single objector, who is not reportedly from Uttarakhand, has filed objection applications seeking deletion of hundreds of names, reported the Pioneer. While a Congress delegation led by former MLA Manoj Rawat recently met the chief electoral officer, Dr B.V.R.C. Purushottam, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and spokesperson Vinod Chamoli said, “If an objection is raised against a voter’s name, it does not necessarily mean they are Congress voters. Objections have also been raised against names associated with the BJP. Objections were even raised against my name and those of my family members.”A recent investigation by Newslaundry, however, revealed that five objectors with links to BJP in five different constituencies across Uttarakhand had filed as many as 6,500 objection applications, mostly against Muslims.In one constituency, Nankmatta, for instance, the report showed that out of 391 Form-7 applications, 353 (which is about 90%) came from Kishor Joshi who identifies himself as a BJP Booth Level Agent (BLA).
