New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidates list in Rajasthan has led to anger, shock and degrees of dissatisfaction, according to multiple reports.BJP has released its first list of 41 candidates in the state, where it is attempting to wrest power from the incumbent Congress.Indian Express has it that Narpat Singh Rajvi, the son-in-law of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the former vice-president of India, is angered at the snub he has received. Rajvi, who is the MLA from Vidhyadhar Nagar, was overlooked for the constituency he holds for Jaipur royal Diya Kumari. Rajvi is a five-time MLA, Express noted, and believed to be close to Vasundhara Raje. The report observes the snub as something reflective of a generational change in BJP, where the relative of one of the party’s original founders would earlier have been a shoe-in for a ticket.According to Times of India, another Raje loyalist has been unhappy and even met the former chief minister after having been dropped as the Jhotwara candidate. Rajpal Singh Shekhawat is a former minister. He is not the only one, a two-time MLA, Anita Gurjar, has announced that she will contest as an independent candidate. Gurjar has openly alleged that she was treated thus as she is close to Raje. Also feeling “left out,” says the TOI report, is Kalu Lal Gurjar, who was BJP chief whip in the legislative assembly when Raje was CM.Meanwhile, a tussle is afoot in Tonk district – where BJP’s in-charge is South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who made headlines in the parliament’s September special session after using violent anti-Muslim slurs against a colleague from the Bahujan Samaj Party, Danish Ali.Here, BJP is fielding Gujjar leader Vijay Bainsla from the Deoli-Uniara constituency. However, , according to The Hindu, local leaders feel that Bainsla who left his corporate job for the role, is “parachute candidate” and misses the local connect. Bidhuri has defended the choice, noting that current Congress deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, who was elected from Tonk, “is the real outsider.”TOI has reported quoting sources that BJP has formed a ‘damage control committee’ under Union minister Kailash Choudhury to help quell potential rebels.
