New Delhi: External affairs minister S. Jaishankar has travelled to Ahmedabad in Gujarat to file nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections, it has been reported.Jaishankar’s term as a Gujarat member of parliament ends on August 18. Along with Jaishankar’s, the terms of two Bharatiya Janata Party MPs – Dineshchandra Jemalbhai Anavadiya and Lokhandwala Jugalsinh Mathurji – will also end on the day.Gujarat BJP general secretary Pradeepsinh Vaghela was quoted by PTI as having said that Jaishankar will file the papers at around noon today, July 10.“While the BJP has not officially declared the names of candidates for the three Rajya Sabha seats for which the elections are scheduled to be held on July 24, Jaishankar’s nomination was certain,” PTI said.The Congress will not field candidates for the July 24 election to three Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat.Elections to 10 Rajya Sabha seats from Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal will be held together. Goa BJP MP Vinay D. Tendulkar’s tenure ends on July 28.The terms of Trinamool Congress MPs Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sushmita Dev, Shanta Chhetri and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Congress MP Pradip Bhattacharya end on August 18.TMC has retained three candidates for the elections – Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray – and announced three new faces, Samirul Islam, Prakash Chik Baraik and Saket Gokhale.
