New Delhi: After naming their joint front as INDIA, the opposition parties have decided to make ‘Jeetega Bharat’ as the tagline for their alliance. The Hindi tagline, which means ‘India will win’, is likely to be replicated in regional languages, PTI reported quoting sources.During the meeting of 26 opposition parties in Bengaluru, several names were considered for the opposition front before naming it INDIA, which stands for the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance. As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began attacking INDIA and started pitting it against “Bharat”, the opposition alliance decided to include it in its tagline. Uddhav Thackeray reportedly suggested that the tagline should be in Hindi.Soon after opposition parties named their alliance as INDIA, BJP leader and Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, was quick to change his Twitter bio on Tuesday from “Chief Minister of Assam, India” to “Chief Minister of Assam, Bharat”.Taking to Twitter, Sarma wrote, “Our civilisational conflict is pivoted around India and Bharat. The British named our country as India. We must strive to free ourselves from colonial legacies. Our forefathers fought for Bharat, and we will continue to work for Bharat.”Our civilisational conflict is pivoted around India and Bharat. The British named our country as India. He pointed to Sarma that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked chief ministers in the country to work as ‘Team India’, named schemes as Skill India, Start-up India, and Digital India. On Twitter, Ramesh wrote, “Is the Assam CM having a surplus of sour grapes in his mouth? His new mentor, Mr. Modi, gave us Skill India, Start-up India and Digital India—all new names for ongoing programmes. He’s asked CMs of different states to work together as ‘Team India’. He even made an appeal to Vote India! But when 26 political parties call their formation INDIA (Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance), he throws a fit and says the use of India reflects ‘colonial mentality’! He should go tell that to his Boss.”Ramesh’s tweet accompanied an old video of Modi, where he asks voters, in a public meeting, to “vote for India” to gain freedom from dynasty politics, price rise, corruption, and bad governance. Is the Assam CM having a surplus of sour grapes in his mouth?
