Bengaluru: Days after an SIT was constituted to investigate the cases of mass sexual abuse involving absconding Janata Dal (Secular) [JD(S)] MP Prajwal Revanna, a special court on May 18 (Saturday) has issued an arrest warrant against him. Based on the SIT’s request, the Special Court for Elected Representatives has issued the warrant against Prajwal, the incumbent Hassan MP, in connection with a complaint registered on April 28 at the Holenarsipur town police station in which he, and his father, JD(S) MLA H.D. Revanna, were accused of sexual abuse by their former domestic worker. H.D. Revanna was granted interim anticipatory bail by the Special Court for MPs and MLAs in the same sexual harassment case registered at Holenarasipura police station. He is out on bail after remaining in jail for about a week, post his arrest on May 4, in a related case for allegedly kidnapping a woman. Three FIRs have been filed so far against Prajwal on April 28, May 8 and May 10. Prajwal’s constituency Hassan, voted on April 26. An SIT was formed by the Siddaramaiah-led government on April 27 to probe the multiple sexual abuse cases, on the same day the JD(S) leader is said to have flown to Europe. A blue corner notice has been issued against the Hassan MP by the Interpol to gather information about his whereabouts and bring him back to the country. The Union government has not canceled his diplomatic passport yet. The issue came to the forefront after several videos surfaced showing multiple instances of what appear to be forceful and non-consensual sexual acts committed by Prajwal. In most of the videos, it looks like women were recorded by him under what seems to be some form of duress and without their consent. Ahead of the polls in Hassan, pen drives and CDs containing Prajwal’s sexual abuse videos — in which faces of the women are clearly visible — were reportedly anonymously circulated in the constituency. Two persons — Chetan and Likith Gowda — allegedly associated with the BJP were arrested by the SIT in Hassan in connection with circulating the videos.Earlier in May, the SIT had issued a warning against the circulation of videos related to the sexual abuse episodes and even possessing or storing them and underlined that strict action would be taken for the same.
