New Delhi: Naresh Gujral, Rajya Sabha member from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has written to Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Pattnaik expressing “disappointment” at the forces for not taking any action on his complaint lodged on the night of February 26 to rescue 16 persons from the Muslim community trapped in a house near Gonda Chowk of Maujpur in Northeast Delhi due to a mob trying to break into their premises.Gujral is the son of former prime minister I.K. Gujral.Urging the police chief to look into the matter, Gujral, in the letter written on Thursday, said he dialled 100 soon after he received “a desperate call from an acquaintance that he and 15 other Muslims” were trapped in a house.“I explained the urgency of the situation and told the operator that I am a member of parliament. At 11.43 p.m., I received a confirmation from the Delhi Police that my complaint had been received along with the reference number 946603,” he says in the letter.A copy of the letter has been sent to union home minister Amit Shah and Lt. He said nobody wants a repeat of 1984.He said minorities in certain parts of the city are “frightened”, adding, “Because their lives and properties have not been protected by the Delhi Police, which is very similar to what we saw in 1984. It’s shocking.”
