New Delhi: After Uttar Pradesh chief minister Adityanath announced the rechristening of Allahabad and Faizabad district, his leaders have also jumped on the name-changing bandwagon, with one demanding that Agra be renamed as ‘Agravan’ or ‘Agrawal’.According to an NDTV report, BJP MLA Jagan Prasad Garg said at a press conference that since people from Agrawal community used to live there, the name of the city should be “Agra-van” or “Agra-wal”. “Agra has no meaning. You check the name Agra anywhere, what relevance does it have?” Garg was quoted as saying.Garg, who represents the Agra North constituency in Uttar Pradesh, further said that he would meet the chief minister and demand that the name be changed, Dainik Bhaskar reported.BJP leader Sangeet Som has a demand of his own. The controversial lawmaker of Sardhana has asked for Muzaffarnagar to be renamed to Laxmi Nagar, claiming that the demand has come from the public. “All I’m saying is what the Mughals have done to erase the culture of India – especially Hindutva – we’re trying to correct that. India’s identity is its culture. We’re working to safeguard it and Bharatiya Janata Party will move forward on it.”Jagan Prasad Garg.
