New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has moved to replace Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha as deputy leader in the house to be with Ashok Mittal, fuelling speculation of his role within the party.AAP has given a letter to the Rajya Sabha secretariat and said that Chadha should not be allotted time from the party to speak in the House, PTI has reported citing sources.Mittal however said that such changes are part of a continuous process of leadership position changes in the party.“Such changes in leadership positions are a continuous process. Earlier, N.D. Gupta was Deputy Leader, then Raghav took over, and now I have been given the responsibility. Tomorrow, someone else may get the opportunity. The party wants every MP and leader to learn and gain experience in different roles, and this responsibility has been given to me to develop administrative and political skills,” he said.He also denied speculation around Chadha leaving the AAP.“These are just rumours; such things keep circulating and should not be given importance.”The move comes after Chadha was not named as one of the party’s star campaigners for the upcoming polls in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry and following months of speculation around Chadha’s role in the party.Chadha did not publicly react after former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal along with former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and others were cleared of all charges by a Delhi court in the liquor excise policy case. Chadha was also absent during Kejriwal’s arrest ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and had later pinned his delayed response on recovery from an eye surgery in London. In the past few weeks, Chadha’s interventions in parliament have included rising food prices in airports, paid paternity leave, mobile data plans, among others.Chadha became a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022, and has another two years of his tenure to go. He has been a national spokesperson for the AAP. In the 2020 Delhi assembly elections, he won the Rajendra Nagar constituency. The move to replace Chadha comes just three days after he praised the government’s Udan Yatri Cafe after visiting one at the Mumbai airport.“Was flying to Delhi and wanted chai before the flight. Spoke to several travellers while I was there. All of them happy, all of them saying the same thing: Easy on the pocket, good service, value for money. Affordable airport food is possible. And this is proof,” Chadha posted on X with a video.
