New Delhi: Police on Tuesday arrested a journalist from the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a 2017 case, PTI reported quoting officials. It was not immediately clear what the charges in the case are.Khalid Gul, one of the several journalists whose residence was raided by police last month in connection with online threats to scribes, was arrested from Anantnag town.Gul was associated with local daily Greater Kashmir for many years, most recently as the south Kashmir bureau chief. The daily, however, said he had parted ways with the publication earlier this year.In November, as The Wire has reported, the life threat given by ‘Kashmir Fight’ blog, which circulated on Telegram and WhatsApp platforms on November 12, triggered raids at 19 places in Kashmir, including the residence of Haji Hayat, owner of Kashmir Reader, an English daily based in Srinagar which is known to pursue an adversarial editorial policy.Gul’s residence too was raided at this time. He is currently a freelance journalist but his previous employer – Greater Kashmir – was also named in the threat letter.(With PTI inputs)
