New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Monday made scathing remarks on the functioning of the Supreme Court Registry and ordered a fact-finding enquiry into an apparent lapse in the implementation of a judicial direction, LiveLaw reported.A bench comprising CJI Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted that an earlier order had explicitly directed that a notice be issued to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). However, the Registry’s office report stated that no such direction had been given. The Bench questioned the failure to issue notice to the ED, with the CJI calling the registry “very nasty”. “Very nasty Registry, they think they are super Chief Justice of India,” the CJI said. The court has asked the Registrar (Judicial) to furnish an explanation as to why the direction was omitted from the records and the notice not sent. The CJI also mentioned that similar concerns about the Registry’s functioning have been raised in the past, suggesting the need for a “deeper probe”, the report said. The CJI’s critical remarks came while the court was hearing a bail plea filed by Ayushi Mittal alias Ayushi Agarwal. Agarwal has been accused of an alleged investment fraud amounting over Rs 37,000 crore.
