Jaipur: While hearing a bail plea through video conferencing, Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma at the Rajasthan high court bench at Jaipur adjourned the matter after an advocate appeared in his baniyan (vest).In an order date April 24, 2020, Sharma noted, “Keeping in view that the petitioner’s counsel was not in proper uniform, this matter is adjourned.”The high court said that even during video conferencing, decorum of the court is required to be maintained.Also read: In a Virtual Courtroom, Signs of Long-Awaited Change“This court has already observed that during this pandemic where court proceeding is being done through video conferencing, lawyers must appear in proper uniform,” the order reads.The Rajasthan HC’s order.The high court iterated the Advocates Act, 1961 related to legal practitioners. According to Section 49(1)(c) of the Act, the Bar Council of India has formed rules that prescribe the standard of professional conduct and etiquette to be observed by advocates including provision of wearing uniform while pleading case for their clients.
