New Delhi: The Pune Police has arrested the mother of the juvenile who allegedly, in a drunken state, had crashed a luxury Porsche car owned by his family into a motorcycle this past May 19, killing two software engineers. The mother is accused of replacing the blood sample of her 17-year-old son at the city’s Sassoon General Hospital which can be counted as tampering with evidence. With the mother’s arrest this past June 1, three from the juvenile’s family have been arrested in the case besides eight others.According to a report in Hindustan Times quoting the press statement issued by the crime branch officials investigating the sensational case, the mother and father of the juvenile were interrogated on the matter and “have confessed that their underage son was driving the Porsche car at the time of the accident”. It said the parents arrested by the crime branch at around 3 pm on Saturday (June 1), admitted to their child’s involvement in the accident during the interrogation. The news report also said, “The minor’s mother also confessed that her blood was used to manipulate the blood sample report collected at Sassoon General Hospital.”This is the second time the father was arrested by the crime branch in the case. He was already taken into custody along with his father (the grandfather of the juvenile accused) for allegedly playing a role in kidnapping the driver employed by the family.“During the interrogation of the accused, it became clear that mother’s blood sample was replaced with minor’s sample,” the crime branch press statement said. It said the police have also already interrogated the suspended forensics department head of the hospital, Dr. Ajay Taware, the casualty medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor, and mortuary staffer Atul Ghalkamble following their arrest this past May 27 for allegedly replacing the blood samples of the minor boy with that of his mother’s.Significantly, though the witnesses had said that the boy was in an inebriated condition at the time of the incident, the blood sample tampering had made it difficult to determine it. Hours after the accident, he was released by the juvenile board, triggering massive public outrage. He, was, thereafter, taken into custody and the local police sought the Board’s permission to probe the minor accused, which was immediately granted.
