New Delhi: A metropolitan court in Ahmedabad on July 21, Thursday granted bail to filmmaker Avinash Das who was arrested for sharing a photo of Amit Shah with arrested IAS officer Pooja Singhal on his social media account.Das was arrested on July 20, Wednesday.He was detained on July 19 for sharing two images – one of Shah with arrested IAS officer Pooja Singhal and another of a painting of a woman wearing a dress in the colours of the national flag, The Wire had reported. Singhal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case on May 11.The Ahmedabad Police’s Detection of Crime Branch had on May 13 filed a first information report (FIR) against him in this case.As per the FIR, Das had shared the photo with a caption alleging that it was clicked a few days before the officer’s arrest. The photo was actually taken in 2017, the report said.According to India Today, his bail was also opposed by the Ahmedabad crime branch department. However, the court refused to give the department further custody of the filmmaker.The filmmaker was charged under Section 469 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code as well as provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act and the Information Technology Act.“He has a history of posting fake and wrong posts on social media. He had posted a picture on social media where people were lying on the ground during the Covid pandemic with the caption, ‘somewhere in Gujarat’… However, the picture was of some other place. Likewise, he has posted many fake photos… We have also found a post where he described Hindu gods and goddesses in an obscene manner,” Ahmedabad Crime Branch’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Chaitanya Mandlik told reporters, according to Indian Express.
