Among other demands of the United Forum of Bank Unions is a five-day working week for banking staff.

New Delhi: The United Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella body of nine bank unions, has announced a decision to go on a two-day strike on January 30 and 31.

Among other demands is a five-day working week for banking staff. Union workers are also asking for updated pension, that the wage revision process be kickstarted and recruitment at all levels.

The news agency IANS has reported that the United Forum is also calling for the scrapping of the National Pension System for bank employees.

Business Standard has quoted C.H. Venkatachalam, the general secretary of the All India Bank Employees’ Association (which is part of the United Forum) as having said that repeated letters to the Indian Banks’ Association were ignored.

The last time the United Forum led a nationwide strike, in March 2021, Venkatachalam had counted on the participation of around 10 lakh bank employees and bank officers.
