New Delhi: The Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Saturday said that it was hit by a cyber attack in November. The statement comes on the heels of an alleged ransomware attack on the All India Institute of Medical Sciences servers on November 23, which disrupted several patient services. The damage caused by the cyber attack on Safdarjung Hospital was not as severe as the AIIMS attack, the Hindustan Times reported officials as saying, as the processes are not as computerised. On Thursday, AIIMS said that the e-Hospital application had been restored. However, all hospital services were reportedly still running on manual mode.“There was a cyber attack in our hospital system and servers were down but the National Informatics Centre [NIC] was able to revive the systems,” Safdarjung Hospital’s Medical Superintendent B.L. Sherwal said. He told HT that the administration was made aware of the cyber attack on November 14 when several operators were unable to log into a few computers.Anuj Agarwal, the general secretary of the resident doctors’ association at Safdarjung Hospital, said that since the operations largely run manually, “the impact was not as badly felt” as AIIMS.The Delhi Police registered a first information report under provisions of extortion and cyber terrorism on November 25.AIIMS has sought support from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team – the nodal agency within the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology that deals with cyber security threats – to restore its digital services.
