New Delhi: The flow of alcohol in Gujarat – officially a dry state for the last 60 years – did not stop during the coronavirus year. A report in the Times of India says that liquor seizures made in the state in the last year remained high – Rs 215 crore worth of alcohol was seized between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2020.On average, that means liquor worth Rs 34 lakh was seized in the state every day during this period. The seized bottles include both country liquor and Indian-made foreign liquor.The high seizure amounts were recorded despite the fact that India saw a national lockdown due to COVID-19 during the last year, and most activity had come to a halt for 2.5 months. There were also night curfews in the state around Diwali.According to ToI, in addition to the alcohol, narcotics worth Rs 68.6 crore were seized in the same time period.Ahmedabad reported the highest seizures of liquor worth Rs 23.48 crore, the report said.
