New Delhi: Several victims and their families affected by the Red Fort Blast have not received the compensation promised by the Delhi government more than a month after the tragedy. The Rekha Gupta government had announced Rs 10 lakh in compensation to the families of those who had died in the blast, Rs 5 lakh for victims left with permanent disabilities, Rs 2 lakh for those with serious injuries and Rs 20,000 for those with minor injuries. Many among the deceased were the sole breadwinners in their families, and the delayed compensation has left their families in a lurch. Eighteen-year-old Nouman Ansari, who was in the city to source products for his shop in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli on the day of the blast, was one such victim.“The entire family has gone into depression since his death,” Nouman’s uncle Mahboob Ansari told the Hindu. “After we submitted all documents with the Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Delhi, we were asked to wait. After a week, we were told the SDM will be transferred and all the formalities will be done after that. Then we were told that they were coordinating with the Uttar Pradesh government and our local police here but even after all the paperwork, we have not received anything so far,” he said.Aneed Pathak, the son of 50-year-old Vinay Pathak, a priest who died in the blast, said that his father’s death had left his mother in an indescribable state. “I cannot explain the loss of a father. My mother has been in an indescribable mental state since his death. The family is unable to deal with the grief,” he said. Pathak added that even after completing all necessary paperwork and being assured of timely release of the compensation, his family was yet to receive anything. While the chief minister’s office (CMO) did not respond to queries by the paper, a source in the CMO quoted by the Hindu said that 11 victims had been paid so far, while clearance from the police was awaited for the rest. “We are yet to receive a clarification from the Delhi Police on the rest of the applicants. The police have not clarified yet whether they really are the victims or have any links with the accused,” the source told the paper.
