New Delhi: Mughal Gardens at the President of India’s residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan, in Delhi have been renamed as ‘Amrit Udyan’.The decision is said to be part of the government of India’s ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, a project to mark 75 years of Independence, according to the government. “On the occasion of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence as ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the President of India is pleased to give a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as ‘Amrit Udyan’,” says the President’s Secretariat in a press release.The gardens will be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday, January 29, according to a government Press release. It will be open for the public from January 31 till March 26. Interestingly, the press release detailing plans of the timings, etc., does not mention the phrase Mughal Gardens at all.In Delhi, there are still many roads named after Mughal emperors, among other historical figures. After a charged campaign, an arterial road named after Emperor Aurangzeb was changed to APJ Abdul Kalam Road in 2015.
