Though Rohatgi did not elaborate on his reasons, The Wire has reported that an ‘unusual’ circular issued by the law ministry may have prompted the rejection. The circular placed the solicitor general, Tushar Mehta, in charge of assigning cases to government attorneys that the AG himself or herself decided not to argue themselves.Note: In both the original headline and the text of the story, the AG was incorrectly expanded to Attorney General of India. The correct designation is Attorney General for India.
