New Delhi: A day after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union education minister following youth-led movement across the country and demand by opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (July 26) announced the constitution of a high-powered task force on examination reforms under the leadership of Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani. Modi, however, has not mentioned anything related to the protests or the former education minister even after Pradhan’s ouster.“The government of India is continuously taking various measures for the future of students. Those who tampered with the students’ future are languishing in jail. We have already established fast-track courts. We are also moving towards enacting new legislation in parliament that incorporates stringent legal provisions. However, we must look to the future. Our examination system needs to be reliable and transparent, and it must make maximum use of technology,” Modi said in a video released on social media. Also read: 12 Questions About Police Brutality on Students in Delhi Amit Shah Must AnswerHe added, “To address these concerns, a high-powered task force – comprising world-renowned technology expert Nandan Nilekani – will be constituted to focus on examination reforms and ensure the integrity of upcoming examinations based on its recommendations.”HIGH POWERED TASK FORCE on examination reforms under the leadership of Shri Nandan Nilekani constituted.@NandanNilekani pic.twitter.com/mMpmPdIEL5— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) July 26, 2026Nilekani, had led the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which implemented Aadhaar, as founding chairman from 2009 to 2014. Somnath, former Intelligence Bureau (IB) director Tapan Deka, IIT Chennai director V. Kamakoti, former education secretary Anita Karwal and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena. Interestingly, only Kamakoti has the experience of working in an academic institution. In 2018, when Karwal was the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) director, class 10 Mathematics paper and class 12 Economics paper were leaked, Deccan Herald’s Amrita Madhukalya mentioned in her report, and re-examination for both the subjects were held. Following the paper leaks and cancellation of exams, students had held protests and demanded Karwal’s resignation accusing the board of negligence. Also read: Security Forces Aren’t Confirming Pellet Gun Use in Delhi, But Here’s What We’ve Been Able to VerifyWhile Pradhan resigned due to intense pressure amid youth anger and nationwide protests and opposition’s strikes against NEET paper leak and calls for accountability from the Modi government, the prime minister remained silent on the issue. Radhakrishnan Committee’s 101 recommendations”.“Friends, in June 2024, after it bungled multiple examinations including NEET-UG, the Modi Government constituted a High-Level Committee of Experts headed by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan Committee’s 101 recommendations. Indeed, for most of the two years between the 2024 and 2026 paper leaks, it didn’t even appoint a full-time Director General for the National Testing Agency.
