New Delhi: The Manipur government under N. Biren Singh has prohibited the sharing of videos and photographs of violence or the result of violent acts on social media, reports have said.In an order issued by Manipur home commissioner, T. Ranjit Singh, the government has said that it has taken the decision to “restrain” the spread of such videos videos and images as they may aggravate the law and order situation in the state.Manipur is already under an internet blackout.“In case anybody is in possession of such videos/images/pictures, he/she may approach the nearest superintendent of police, irrespective of jurisdiction and submit the same for taking appropriate legal action. At any cost, they shall not resort to circulate/spread such videos/images/pictures through any social media,” said the order, according to Deccan Herald. Videos and footage of atrocities in the over four-month violence across the state since May 3 have played a significant role.In June, countrywide outrage was witnessed after a video showing two Kuki women being sexually harassed and paraded naked in May was circulated.Then, photographs of two missing Meitei teenagers circulated, purporting to show that they had been killed.Recently, another video showed a purportedly Kuki man being burned.All have triggered tension.
