New Delhi: The Manipur government has announced the restoration of mobile internet across the state but has kept out the areas within two kilometres of the peripheries of nine districts.Deccan Herald has reported that the notification issued by T. Ranjit Singh, Manipur home commissioner on Sunday, December 3.The notification cited the improvement in the state’s law and order situation in the past few days and “inconvenience faced by the common people” as reasons for this decision.Manipur has been roiled by ethnic violence since May 3. It has led to the murders of over 200 people, numerous injuries and damage, and to the displacement of over 20,000 people.Through it, the Manipur government clamped an internet shutdown that lasted for over 200 days with the exception of three days in September.According to reports, there will be no mobile internet on the two-kilometre radius of the peripheral areas of Chandel and Kakching, Churachandpur and Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Kakching, Kangpokpi and Imphal West, Kangpokpi and Imphal East, Kangpokpi and Thoubal and Tengnoupal and Kakching.The Chandel, Bishnupur, Imphal West, Imphal East and Thoubal are Meitei majority districts while Kukis are the majority in Churachandpur, Kakching, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal, DH noted in its report.
