New Delhi: After several months, strife-torn Manipur witnessed another murder as a man was abducted and subsequently shot dead in Churachandpur district, with a purported video of the incident going viral on social media. The man has been identified as Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh who belongs to the Meitei community and was abducted along with his Kuki wife Chingnu Haokip, from their home in the Tuibong area of Churachandpur district on Wednesday (January 21), reported The New Indian Express.The killing comes amid speculations about the possible formation of the government in the hill state which has been under President’s rule since February 13 last year.While Singh was shot dead, his wife was let off. In the purported video of the killing, a man is seen sitting on the ground and pleading with folded hands before individuals, who cannot be seen in the footage. A burst of fire followed moments later and the body lay on the ground.The body was recovered by the police and a suo motu case has been registered.The New Indian Express report added that the United Kuki National Army, which has not signed the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, is suspected to be involved in the killing of Singh.Till date, around two dozen Kuki insurgent groups have signed the tripartite SoO agreement with Manipur and central governments.Singh had taken up the tribal name of Ginminthang after his marriage. As per reports, he was employed in Nepal and returned home just three days ago. Some Kuki groups had reportedly allowed him to stay with his Kuki wife.The ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities have resulted in the deaths of 260 people and the displacement of 60,000 others.
