New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday banned all victory processions on or after counting of votes in states where assembly polls were held. The decision has been taken to check the spread of coronavirus. The counting of votes will be held in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry on May 2. According to PTI, the EC is preparing an exhaustive order on the matter. The EC has come under severe criticism in recent times for allowing elections rallies to continue, despite it being clearly visible that COVID-19 protocols were not being followed at these large gathering. The Madras high court on Monday said that the Commission was the singular institution responsible for the second wave of the pandemic. It even went so far as to say the EC should be booked for murder, for not acting responsibly when human lives were at stake. The high court also said that the Commission must come up with a comprehensive blueprint on how COVID-19 protocols will be followed on May 2, otherwise the court would not allow the counting to occur.
