New Delhi: A 38-year-old restaurant manager, who also worked as a Zomato delivery executive, was killed after a Delhi police constable rammed his car into his bike on Saturday night.According to the Indian Express, Salil Tripathi lived in Budh Vihar with his mother, wife and 10-year-old son. He was the sole breadwinner of the family – his father died recently of COVID-19. The newspaper said that Tripathi was the manager of Ricos in Hudson Lane and had begun working as a Zomato delivery person to make extra money.The newspaper reported that the constable, identified as Zile Singh, allegedly rammed his Brezza car into Tripathi’s bike near Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini. Singh then hit a DTC bus. Police are probing if Singh was under the influence of alcohol.Tripathi was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.The family has demanded strict action, with Tripathi’s cousin Rahul telling IE, “He used to work late nights to help his family. He was on his way to deliver food when the car hit him outside BSA hospital. He suffered multiple injuries. The car driver was reckless…”“His family was already suffering because of their financial condition. Now, they have lost Salil. He started working at Zomato two months ago. His father died last year… his wife, son and mother were dependent on him. We are trying to help them, but it’s tough. Salil was a caring and hardworking man. I have fond memories of him dancing at family functions and weddings,” he said.The newspaper said that locals who witnessed the collision alleged that constable Singh was speeding and driving rashly.DCP (Rohini) Pranav Tayal told IE that Singh has been arrested and a case under sections of rash driving and death due to negligence has been registered against him. He was tested for blood alcohol levels.
