New Delhi: The Delhi Police’s charge sheet against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, reported on by Indian Express, says that Singh is “liable to be prosecuted and punished for offences” of sexual harassment, molestation and stalking. The charge sheet came after India’s top wrestlers protested with a sit-in at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over 37 days against the lack of action against their complaints of sexual harassment against Singh. Later, they met Union sports minister Anurag Thakur, who agreed to a June 15 deadline for Delhi Police to submit its charge sheet. The police were, in April, ordered to register the first information report by the Supreme Court. The Express report says that across six cases (a seventh, by a minor, was withdrawn), Singh has been booked under sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 354 A (sexual harassment); and 354 D (stalking). The report highlights that in one case, the charge sheet points out that, Singh’s harassment was “repeated and continuing”.Police have now requested the court to summon Singh to face trial and also the witnesses. In total, police have spoken to 108 witnesses. Express reported that out of them, 15, including wrestlers, coaches and referees, corroborated the allegations made by the wrestlers.
