Incumbent Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Praveen Sood has got yet another extension.Sources say, the High Powered Selection Committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, which met yesterday to select next CBI director has decided to grant an extension of one more year to incumbent Praveen Sood.LoP Rahul Gandhi dissented with the process, alleging that the government did not provide the necessary information about the shortlisted candidates and the LoP cannot be reduced to a mere “rubber stamp“.This is the second extension in tenure for Praveen Sood, who is a Karnataka cadre 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.Assam and Meghalaya cadre IPS officer G.P. Singh, who is currently heading the Central Reserve Police Force was also in contention for the coveted post along with Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, chief of Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
