New Delhi: After significant delays, legal interventions and piracy issues, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted an ‘A’ certificate to Tamil Nadu chief minister C. Joseph Vijay starrer film ‘Jana Nayagan’, which is regarded to be Vijay’s final film before his full-time shift to politics. The film, which has been directed by H Vinoth received its censor certificate after a protracted seven-month battle, reported Press Trust of India. Jana Nayagan was originally slated for a January 9, 2026 release ahead of Pongal, and the film was submitted to the CBFC on December 19, 2025.The PTI report added that earlier the film was considered suitable for a ‘U/A’ certificate after its makers implemented modifications suggested by the examining community, but the process got stuck an internal objection was raised by a committee member who claimed that certain portions could hurt public sentiments. After around a month of legal proceedings at the Madras high court, the producers reached the Supreme Court, but later withdrew their petition and decided to present the film to the revising committee instead. The film also got embroiled in further controversy when a high-definition version of the uncertified film leaked online in April. The prosecutors had said during hearings at the Madras high court that 1.2 crore people had viewed the pirated copy before access was successfully blocked.Later, the Tamil Nadu police had also arrested multiple people for their alleged involvement in the leak. Those arrested included a freelance film editor who allegedly sourced the footage from an editing facility.Apart from Vijay, the film also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Narain. It is expected to release in theatres on July 24.
