New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by around 90 paise per litre on Tuesday (May 19), the second increase in less than a week as state-run oil companies ended a nearly four-year pause on fuel price revisions. The latest hike follows a Rs 3 per litre increase last Friday, the first in four years.In Delhi, petrol now costs Rs 98.64 per litre, up 87 paise, while diesel climbed 91 paise to Rs 91.58 per litre.Mumbai saw petrol price rise 91 paise to Rs 107.59 and diesel go up 94 paise to Rs 94.08.Kolkata recorded the steepest petrol hike among the metros, 96 paise, taking it to Rs 109.70 while diesel is up 94 paise to Rs 96.07.In Chennai, petrol rose 82 paise to Rs 104.49 and diesel 86 paise to Rs 96.11.State-run Indian Oil Corp, Hindustan Petroleum Corp and Bharat Petroleum Corp, which together command over 90% of a network of 1.03 lakh fuel stations across the country, typically revise prices in tandem.Global oil prices have shot past $120 a barrel, driven by disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, before easing slightly.Also read: The Claim of ‘Only 3%’ Hike in Petrol-Diesel Prices is Misleading.
