New Delhi: Nitin Tandon, vice-chancellor of CT University, a private university in Punjab’s Ludhiana was removed on Tuesday (February 24), following allegations of misbehaving with a group of Kashmiri students. The local administration has also ordered an inquiry into the matter.The students claimed that on Monday (February 23) Tandon abused them and threatened to cancel their admission after they requested ‘sehri’ and ‘iftar’ arrangements in the university mess amid Ramzan. They held a protest in the university and raised slogans against Tandon.Channi said a committee headed by Jagraon sub-divisional magistrate has been formed to investigate the matter.“The V-C was asked to resign and he has done so. Rest all is a matter of enquiry. There was a heated argument between students and the V-C over food following which the students had locked the mess. The students have ended the protest after his resignation,” Channi told The India Express.In an official statement, Ludhiana deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain mentioned that the district administration, in coordination with Ludhiana Rural senior superintendent of police and community leaders, amicably resolved the issue at the private university. Shocked that assaulting Kashmiris has been normalised even in a state like Punjab. We request strict action against the Vice Chancellor.
