New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released new draft guidelines for recruitment for faculty positions in universities, sparking widespread opposition.According to these guidelines, if no qualified candidates are identified for reserved seats in the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes categories, those seats will be filled by candidates from the unreserved categories.In response, a protest took place today in front of the UGC headquarters in Delhi, denouncing the draft guidelines.Student organisations from various colleges and universities in Delhi participated in this protest, with the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS), All India Students’ Association (AISA), and Democratic Students’ Union (DSU) prominent among them.During the demonstration, students expressed their dissent against the Union government and the UGC, raising slogans and displaying posters outlining their various demands.Because of the opposition to the decision, the UGC on January 28 clarified that the reserved posts in higher education institutions have not yet been de-reserved and will not be de-reserved.Photo: Atul Ashok HowalePhoto: Atul Ashok HowalePhoto: Atul Ashok HowalePhoto: Atul Ashok HowalePhoto: Atul Ashok HowalePhoto: Atul Ashok Howale
