Many states in India including Punjab and Haryana are experiencing a major shortage of Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP). Rising international prices, market volatility have been some external factors, affecting the DAP supply, but local factors like hoarding, black marketing and bad logistics are burning a hole in the farmers’ pockets. In this episode of ‘Krishi Ki Baat’, Indra Shekhar Singh discuss the problem with two esteemed guests – farm leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan and former fertiliser secretary Jugul Mohapatra. Together they go deeper into the supply chain logistics, food sovereignty and how farmers and rabi harvests will suffer if the DAP doesn’t reach in time. The episode ends with solutions to the problem, both long term and short term, that should be achieved if India doesn’t want to see a DAP shortage again.
