New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has said in an interview to Fox News that India was ready to cut all tariffs on US products. While Trump has made similar statements in the past, the Indian government hasn’t confirmed any of them yet.“They make it almost impossible to do business. Do you know they’re willing to cut 100% of their tariffs for the United States?” Trump said in his interview. “That [the deal] will come soon. I’m in no rush. Look, everybody wants to make a deal with us,” Trump added. The Indian government has maintained that the talks on the deal are ongoing.“Between India and the US, trade talks have been going on. These are complicated negotiations. Nothing is decided till everything is. Any trade deal has to be mutually beneficial; it has to work for both countries. That would be our expectation from the trade deal. Until that is done, any judgment on it would be premature,” Union external affairs minister S. Jaishankar said on Thursday.Trump also reiterated that he was instrumental in brokering peace between India and Pakistan in the wake of Operation Sindoor that India launched after the Pahalgam terror attack. “The hatred was great. And I said, ‘We’re going to talk about trade. We’re going to do a lot of trade’’, The Hindu reported. The Hindu noted that this was the seventh time that Trump has made such a claim. The Indian government has so far not acknowledged Trump’s role in the ceasefire between the two countries.
