New Delhi: India’s external affairs minister S. Jaishankar has posted on X (formerly Twitter) about speaking to Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on the Israel-Hamas conflict in West Asia, on November 5.“Discussed the grave situation in West Asia and the concern of the international community. Conveyed the importance of preventing escalation and providing humanitarian support. Agreed to stay in touch,” Jaishankar wrote. The post is notable because it, crucially, does not mention ‘terrorism’, which all of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s posts on X about his conversations with West Asian leaders have had.Israel has intermittently alleged that the October 7 Hamas attack had an “Iranian hand.”A day after the attack, the Wall Street Journal reported on Iranian security officials’ alleged involvement in it. Officials in the US, and Iran, and those of Hamas have denied the claims.Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, has also claimed that Iran was involved in the attack.
