New Delhi: Despite India’s denial, China on Tuesday (January 30) said that Pakistan’s allegations of Indian government agents being involved in the killing of two Pakistani citizens were worthy of attention.Last week, Pakistan’s foreign secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi had asserted that an investigation had uncovered “credible evidence” linking two Indian agents to the murders of Muhammad Riaz in September 2023 and Shahid Latif in October 2023. India promptly refuted these allegations, dismissing them as “false and malicious anti-India propaganda”.“China noted the reports and recent diplomatic disputes between relevant countries. The information released by Pakistan is worth our attention,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a daily media briefing. He also said that China “firmly opposes double standards on counterterrorism”.“China stands for strengthening counterterrorism cooperation among all countries to jointly fight all forms of terrorism,” added the Chinese diplomat.Citing the allegations by Canada and US of the activities of Indian agents against separatists on their soil, Pakistan’s foreign secretary claimed that the “Indian network of extra-judicial and extra-territorial killings has become a global phenomenon”.In its reaction, India claimed that it is Pakistan that is known as “the epicentre of terrorism, organised crime, and illegal transnational activities”. “India and many other countries have publicly warned Pakistan cautioning that it would be consumed by its own culture of terror and violence. Pakistan will reap what it sows. To blame others for its own misdeeds can neither be a justification nor a solution,” said the Indian spokesperson. While India has not reacted to the Chinese statement yet, it is unlikely to be happy with it. China has several times put a hold on India-backed proposals to list Pakistan-based terrorists at the UN Security Council’s sanctions committee, which had led New Delhi to accuse Beijing of “doublespeak and double standards” in fighting terrorism.
