On August 8, during a programme organised by an organisation called ‘Bharat Jodo Andolan’ at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, Hindutva leaders had called for violence against Muslims. BJP leaders Ashwini Upadhyay and Gajendra Chauhan were present there. A purported video of the event, which went viral on social media, called for the killing of Muslims.

Ashwini Upadhyay has denied his role in the event. A spokesperson of Bharat Jodo Abhiyan said that the demonstration was under her leadership.
