Watch: Are 'Love Jihad' and Hate Speech Going to Be Part of BJP's BMC Polls Agenda?

Maharashtra’s foremost journalist, Girish Kuber, helps us understand the politics of the Mumbai civic body polls and why BJP may be keen to bank on Hindutva bodies.

After over 30 rallies across Maharashtra, the Sakal Hindu Samaj, an umbrella body of Hindu organisations, held a Hindu Jan Aakrosh Morch in Mumbai on January 29, amid calls for laws against religious conversions, the bogey of ‘love jihad’ conspiracies, and an economic boycott of Muslims.

Various hate speeches were given at this rally. The event was attended by several top Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, ministers of the Maharashtra government and BJP MLAs.

Is this an attempt to communalise the politics of Maharashtra for the purpose of the upcoming BMC polls? BJP’s top brass, including Amit Shah, have repeatedly made it clear that the BMC is important for them.
