New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped in to issue notice to the Uttar Pradesh government over the incident in an Uttar Pradesh private school where the teacher, Tripta Tyagi, made other students repeatedly slap an eight-year-old Muslim boy.The NHRC, taking suo moto cognisance of the incident, also issued notice to the state police, asking for a detailed report on the matter within four weeks.“A notice has been issued to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, calling for a detailed report within four weeks. It should include the action taken against the teacher, the status of the FIR registered in the matter and compensation, if any, paid to the aggrieved family, as well as steps taken/proposed to be taken to ensure that such shameful incidents do not recur in future,” the NHRC said.The Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission has also written to the Muzaffarnagar district magistrate on the matter, seeking a reply before September 6 and asking him to be present at its office. Commission president Ashfaq Saifi has said that the basic shiksha adhikari of the district and the accused teacher, Tyagi, should be present during the hearing.“Through various mediums a video has come to light cognizance where a teacher is seen harassing a child from a minority community in Muzaffarnagar district. The president (of the commission) has conducted a probe into this incident and has sought a report on this,” The Indian Express quoted Saifi’s letter to the DM as saying.The private school in question, Neha Public School, was sealed by the authorities on Sunday.As The Wire has reported, the young boy’s family has been facing pressure to “compromise” on the matter.
