Primary Data Source: National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

The data shown is the incidence of the crime as recorded by the police and collated by the NCRB. This app doesn't reflect the number of convictions or number of victims. The NCRB follows the 'Principal Offense' rule for counting the number of crimes. This means that if many offences are registered in one case, only the most serious charge is counted. The data comes with all the disclaimers and limitations described by the NCRB in its compendiums.

Population data used to calculate the rate of crimes per lakh population is taken from the SECC.
