Mohali: On Monday, the joint farmers’ front cleared the air over rifts arising amongst them after one of their key members, Gurnam Singh Chaduni of the Bharatiya Kisan Union Haryana separately met with politicians from the opposition in a ‘Kisan Sansad’, or ‘People’s Parliament’, he organised in New Delhi on Sunday. After Chaduni’s meeting with the politicians “of all non-BJP parties” at the Constitution Club in the capital, other leaders from Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) – the joint farmers’ front – distanced themselves from Chaduni’s activities on Monday.A statement by the joint farmers’ front noted: “SKM is not associated with the ‘all-party meeting’ taken up by Mr. Chaduni with political parties. SKM, after taking note of Mr. Chaduni’s ongoing activities with political parties, after due discussion on the same in a general body meeting of SKM yesterday, has formed a Committee that will inquire into the matter and give its report in 3 days’ time. SKM will take further steps thereafter.”The SKM, since its inception, has distanced itself from politicians of all political parties. Even though the opposition is supporting the movement from the sidelines, no one has been involved in talks with the Centre, nor have they been allowed to address the movement from any public platform. Also read: Farmers’ Protest: Agriculture Expert Devinder Sharma Answers Frequently Asked QuestionsSoon after SKM distanced itself from Chaduni’s meeting with the politicians, the latter penned a letter to the farmers’ front clearing the air on Monday evening. In a statement to the press Chaduni said he won’t attend the ‘Kisan Sansad’ anymore and it was done only in his ‘personal capacity’. “Conspiracies are being hatched to defame us so that a message can be sent that the morcha stands divided.
