The Ramnath Goenka Awards, organised annually by the Indian Express to celebrate outstanding work in journalism, this year saw the Indian Express’s chief editor make some sharp comments about the challenges facing the Indian media universe.
In his brief vote of thanks towards the end of the event on November 2, Raj Kamal Jha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his presence and remarks, but then phrased some of the takeaways from the chief guest’s speech in a way that appeared to leave him wondering whether he was being praised or criticised.
The BJP’s distaste for journalists who question the party’s narrative is well known, and Modi made no effort to mask that with some impromptu comments about how he thinks journalism has changed. Watch this video for more.
