Taking its renewable energy dispute with the US to the World Trade Organisation, India has said that eight US states illegally support their renewable energy sectors, a Reuters report said.

India’s complaint alleges the states of Washington, California, Montana, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan, Delaware and Minnesota support their renewables sector with subsidies and domestic content requirements (an obligation to buy local goods rather than imports).

After this complaint, the US has 60 days to settle the dispute. If that doesn’t happen, India can ask the WTO to adjudicate.
