No charges have been pressed against BJP leader Sangeeta Varshney or members of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, who allegedly roughed up the couple.
New Delhi: BJP Mahila Morcha’s Aligarh leader, Sangeeta Varshney, has been caught on camera slapping a woman for being in a relationship with a Muslim man. An FIR has been filed in the case – not against Varshney, but the man.
“Tujhe itni sharam bhi nahi hai, tu kya zyaada bahi ho gayi? Tujhme itni bhi samajh nahi hi hai ki kaun Hindu hai kaun Musalman hai? (Don’t you have any shame, do you think you’re that grown up? Can you not even understand who is a Hindu and who Muslim?,” Varshney yells at the woman in the video, after slapping her twice.

According to a Times of India report, Varshney then called the woman’s father to the scene and told him to slap her as well.
The couple was first hounded by UP chief minister Adityanath’s outfit Hindu Yuva Vahini. Members of the group saw the two together in public – reportedly at a restaurant drinking tea – and then roughed them up and dragged them to a police station. Deepak Sharma, general secretary of Hindu Yuva Vahini, Naurangabad, said he had been “noticing” the couple for a few months, and was told that they were from different religious backgrounds. “We questioned them on Tuesday, when we caught them doing wrong things in public. Then we took them to the police station,” Sharma told the newspaper.
According to the Times of India, the woman told the police, Varshney and others that the man was her boyfriend and that they had been in a relationship for a few years now. The woman’s father came to pick her up and said he did not want to pursue charges against anyone.
But things didn’t end there. According to the Times of India, the police decided to file an FIR against the woman’s boyfriend. “The girl’s father did not want to take action against anyone, and took his daughter away. However, a case has been registered under section 294 (indulging in obscene act at a public place) of the IPC against Faizan, who was detained by police on Tuesday,” Aligarh senior superintendent of police Rajesh Pandey told the newspaper.
